America squanders more electrical energy than any other country. And with all the problems our environment is confronting right now with pollution and the depletion of our ozone layer, we must help conserve energy, which in turn will assist our world. Benjamin Franklin, Alessandro Volta, and George Westinghouse were some of the historical persons that got interested enough to research the possibilities with electricity. Learn what events took place this day in history. Discover more facts and events that happened in history.
Here, we are going to address a couple of things that anyone can do to not simply save power but save a little money as well. There is nothing hard about what we are going to share with you but you have to endeavor to do these things to save our environment.
Simply switching off the lights each time you go out of a room in your home is one of the things you can do to save electricity. Most of us probably temporarily leave the living room lights turned on when we visit the kitchen to prepare some food because we believe we are returning soon. If you do this for just a couple of times a day, it could add up to at least thirty minutes of squandered electrical power. Even if 30 minutes doesn’t appear like much, keep in mind that millions upon millions of people do this each day. And every individual who does this is wasting 182 hours of electrical energy annually for just this one light. Let’s assume that we actually leave the lights turned on for about 182 hours every single year and let’s multiply that by one million people. That is 182,000,000 hours of energy being wasted each year on merely one light. Do you know what happened on this day in history? Continue reading for other important historical information.
One more thing that is causing electricity to be wasted is the habit a lot of people have of entering a room and turning the lights on. It’s one thing many of us do automatically. I often find myself doing it too. The problem is that even at daytime when you have no need for the light since you’re getting more than enough sunlight to light up the room. However many of us still come into a room and turn the lights on. Plus, many of us fail to remember to turn the lights off because there is already a lot of natural light coming in we don’t realize the light is still on. You must make a deliberate effort to leave the lights flipped off if there is sufficient natural light in a room.
One other serious problem is people leaving things like TVs and radios turned on all day even if they are not in the same room. A good example is my mom; she’s forever leaving the TV turned on in the living room, even though she’s is in the kitchen cooking a meal or cleaning the rest of the house. You only have to think about the amount of electrical energy being squandered. If you are not going to be in the room anymore and the television is flipped on, switch it off. Do you know on January 11, 1949 the first ‘networked’ TV broadcast took place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania? For some other dates and historical events go to today in history November 9. More figures, facts, and events!
These are just some really easy tips that can go a long way to conserve electricity and help save the environment. It doesn’t take much to do what we explained but if everyone does it, irrespective of how little it may be, it will have a huge positive outcome.
