Marco Island, Florida is a beautiful place to live, work, or vacation. Nestled on the pretty Gulf of Mexico in Southwest Florida, it is the biggest of the Sunshine State’s waterway called Ten Thousand Islands (which does not actually include 10,000 islands).
One of hundreds (not thousands) of tiny islets and mangroves, Marco Island is really only 24 square miles, making it an exclusive place to live. Many additional factors make the islet a desirable place to raise a family or bring your family on vacation, however, and one of the biggest is its clean white sandy beaches and beautiful ocean views.
Marco Island has a rich history, starting with the pre-Columbus Calusa Indians. The Calusas left a number of items for archaeologists to find a small portion of which have been stored in the local museum. The world-famous Marco Cat wood carving discovered by archaeologist Frank Cushing in 1896 was not so lfortunate; it was eventually put on display in the Smithsonian.
There are quite a few waterfront Marco Island condos and detached single family homes for buyers to purchase. There are beach front properties or properties facing one of the many canals that give boaters easy access to their home. Marco Island real estate can be found on the market in all price ranges, from the $60,000 ranges for a smaller condo to well over $30 million for one of its more exclusive luxury estates.
As one might expect, you will easily find a wide variety of amenities on Marco Island, including great restaurants, water sports, tennis, and more. Many places of business are situated in view of Marco’s pretty views, allowing diners to see tropical birds like flamingos playing in their natural environment while enjoying good food.
